How the Equality Act’s Gender Ideology Would Harm Children
Exploring the Potential Harm of Gender Ideology on Children
The Act’s Gender Ideology: Harming Children’s Bodies
The Equality Act would politicize treatment of gender dysphoria by depriving children with gender dysphoria and their parents of body-affirming talk therapy. It would enable transgender activists to sue medical professionals for discrimination if the medical professionals' dissent from gender orthodoxy and/or refuse to provide surgical, pharmaceutical, or other medical treatment in support of a child’s gender identity.
Bathrooms, Locker Rooms, and Women’s Sports
It could also endanger children’s bodies by depriving them of safety and privacy in single-sex facilities in schools and public accommodations.
For example, in Loudoun Country, Va., a 15-year-old skirt-wearing male student who was allowed to select the school bathroom of his choosing sexually assaulted a female student. Transferred to another school, the boy sexually assaulted another girl.
Adding insult to injury, not long after the incident, the National School Board Association labeled parents such as the father of one of these girls, who spoke out against transgender and other radical policies at school board meetings, “domestic terrorists.” School boards and government officials who support the introduction of gender identity policies in schools are bullying concerned parents and students into silence. However, we cannot afford to keep quiet as our children's safety and futures are at stake. The case of Loudoun Country is not an isolated incident unfortunately such cases are becoming more and more common as the predators faces no repercussions for their actions, another case is of what recently happened to fifth-grade girls at Weaver Elementary School in Los Alamitos, Ca.
Without any warning to parents, two biological males were placed as counselors at Camp Pali in San Bernardino. The counselors spent three nights in the same cabins with the girls (these males instructed the girls to use they/them pronouns).
When questioned about the controversial move, Emmi Teige, assistant director of Camp Pali, confirmed it. “Per California law, we place staff in cabins they identify with” was her justification.1
Likewise, allowing biological males to compete in sports, particularly contact sports, against female athletes not only takes away the opportunities for these female athletes to medal and win scholarships, it also increases their risk of physical injury. For example, in
Women Sports Policy Working Group, a tally was started in March 2023 in response to the argument, “But there aren’t very many, so what’s the harm?” Actually, there are many male athletes competing in women’s sports. The Washington Stand found that 28 national girls or women’s sports titles were won by trans-identified men between 2003 and 2022, with “the trend accelerating over the past three years.” Each male victory has a multiplier effect, displacing many girls or women from opportunities designed for them.
But more than this, allowing men to compete in women sport where women simply cannot biologically win is leading to women quitting sports-it's not only sports they are quitting it's their dreams, dreams that they spent their entire lives chasing.
“I’ve left cycling. Losing to a trans rider hurts on a million different levels.”
— Hannah Arensman, 24, US cycling champion
“Transgender competitors are ruining our sport.”
— Heather, 66, who quit a ladies shore angling team over trans participation “
At the last contest series I did for Red Bull, I placed second. The trans competitor who won took $1000 dollars in qualifiers, $3000 in finals, and $1,000 in best trick. This totaled $5000 of the prize money meant for female athletes.
I am sick of being bullied into silence.”
— Skateboarder Taylor Silverman2
Mandating Transgender Surgeries
Section 3 of the Equality Act expands the definition of public accommodations under Title II of the Civil Rights Act to “any establishment that provides a good, service, or program, including a store, shopping center, online retailer or service provider, salon, bank, gas station, food bank, service or care center, shelter, travel agency, or funeral parlor, or establishment that provides health care, accounting, or legal services3.” The inclusion of health care will bring legal pressure to bear on medical professionals to participate in gender-affirming hormonal and surgical interventions4. Evan Minton, who identifies as transgender, sued a Catholic hospital for refusing to perform a hysterectomy as part of a treatment plan for gender dysphoria5. In 2019, under a California SOGI law, a state court ruled that Dignity Health “discriminated” against Minton.6
